In this developing series, I explore the concept of "Eigenlicht": the swirling, staticky colors we see when we close our eyes. Translated from the German to mean "own light," these colors perceived in the absence of light are posited to be electrical charges produced when your eyes are at a resting state. These new paintings show these seemingly random eigenlight as the surfacing of the mind’s eye. The viewer sees the colors, text, and texture as a conduit to channel unconscious fears, desires, or their truest, most complex identity. The focus is turned inward to the self, and explores the possibilities of what each of us sees about ourselves when we close our eyes.

This series of mixed media paintings interpret regrowth of nature over the man-made. Through human's repeated pollution and misuse of the planet, these works abstractly depict how Mother Earth will find a way to take hold of her own again, and return to a natural state. The underlying pages of text are interpreted to be human creation, communication, and power. Just like the oxidation of metal, that painted growth over top of the text represents nature’s changes and adaptation to a new environment. While these works directly symbolize the urgency of combating climate change, they also highlight the positive and natural significance of female leadership.

An Idol is someone or something that is greatly admired, loved, or revered. In many cultures, idols are draped in flowers, whether it be leis, bouquets, or garlands. In this series, I dress original paintings of people, places, and feelings in cut-out flowers to emulate the positive ideas and energies that inspire us.
